I have been cocooning, organizing, processing, and burning, all at my parents' home in upstate New York. Tomorrow, I return to Minnesota to finish college and in June, I will officially be returning to North Carolina for the next step of this adventure, to work on a small organic farm in the Triangle area for the summer. The cool thing about farming is that it combines so many of my interests. Sustainable farming strips ecology to its roots: understanding the interactions between living things. And being able to EAT the products of your day-to-day experimental plots.
On a more personal note, I spent the first few days back here going through boxes of old things. I donated, threw away/recycled, and burned a good majority of my things, inspired by my two friends in
Asheville. There is no feeling like watching the 2nd-place wooden trophy from the 4th grade camp boat-building contest go up in delicious flames. I feel
buoyant and free. I hope you are enjoying Spring Cleaning too.
